The terms for using the RecursionSplash website and the online services behind Community Button, including accounts, purchases, Early Access and liability.

1. Agreement
These Terms set the rules for recursionsplashgames.com and for the online services we run for our games, including Community Button's global counter, server-side progression, in-game leaderboards, live feeds, world heatmap and in-game mailbox. They apply when you use this website. They apply to your use of those online services once they have been brought to your attention and you keep using the services. Section 3 explains when we may suspend access to our online services, and the Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data whether or not these Terms apply to you.
RecursionSplash is an independent game studio based in Canada.
RecursionSplash's additional licence terms for the games are in the End User Licence Agreement. Their distribution is governed by Valve's Steam Subscriber Agreement, which is a separate agreement between you and Valve.
2. Who may use the services
You must be at least 13 years old, or older where local law requires it, and old enough to use Steam where you live. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the services with the consent of a parent or guardian.
3. Your account
Your identity on our services is tied to your Steam account. You are responsible for keeping that account secure. We are not liable for loss arising from someone else using your Steam credentials.
We may suspend or terminate access to our online services if you:
- Cheat, exploit bugs, tamper with game data, memory or network traffic, fake or inflate progress, or otherwise manipulate game systems;
- Use bots or other automation tools against our online services, other than auto-clickers and accessibility tools in Community Button, which are allowed;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to our infrastructure;
- Harass other players;
- Use the services for anything unlawful.
In Community Button, the server limits how many clicks it accepts from each player, based on account progression, active multipliers, playtime and recent click activity. Clicks above that limit are discarded automatically, and the account may be flagged for manual review. If a review confirms deliberate cheating, the account may be suspended temporarily or banned permanently, depending on how serious it is, and the game shows an on-screen notice explaining the account's status.

Suspending your access to our online services does not remove the game from your Steam library — that relationship is between you and Valve.
4. Virtual items and currencies
In-game currencies and items (for example coins, Egg Shards, Ectoplasm, gems, pets and boosts) are a limited, revocable licence to use a feature of the game. They are not your property, and we do not buy them back or redeem them for money.
Some Community Button items are Steam Inventory items. At the time of writing, Egg Troves, Collectable Pets and Boost Potions (also called Boost Bottles) can be listed and traded on the Steam Community Market. Trades and Market sales are run by Valve under the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Steam's own rules, fees and restrictions. Market access and item eligibility can vary with your Steam account and region. We do not set Market prices, and we cannot reverse a trade or refund a Market purchase. We do not promise that any item will have or keep a Market value. An item's effects, drop rates, availability and tradability can change in game updates.
We may modify, rebalance, add or remove virtual items as part of normal game operation. In an Early Access title in particular, balance changes are expected and are not a defect.
Paid content. The effects of DLC and of in-game purchases, such as Community Button's Community Boosts, are part of each game's balance and may be adjusted in updates, especially during Early Access. If a change takes away a material part of something you paid for, email support@recursionsplashgames.com. Your rights under consumer law (section 5) still apply.
Random rewards. Some rewards in Community Button are random, including egg drops, Egg Trove contents, bonus rolls and fusion results. Chances and reward tables can change in updates during Early Access, and opening a trove or fusing pets does not guarantee any particular result.
If we permanently discontinue a game's online services, we will give reasonable notice on this website and in that game's announcements on Steam.
5. Purchases and refunds
All purchases are processed by Valve through Steam. We never receive your payment details. Refunds are handled under Steam's refund policy, not by us directly — Valve is the merchant of record.
DLC and in-game items bought through the Steam Item Store, such as Community Boosts, are different kinds of purchase, and Valve decides refunds for both under its refund policy.
Nothing in these Terms removes any right you have under the consumer protection law of the province, state or country where you live. Where those rights conflict with anything here, those rights win.
6. Early Access
Community Button is distributed in Early Access. That means:
- Features may change, be replaced, or be removed.
- Balance and economy values will be adjusted based on live data.
- Service interruptions are more likely than in a finished product.
- Progress, items and leaderboard standings may be affected by updates or by a critical fault.
7. Availability
Our online services are provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime, and we may take services offline for maintenance or discontinue them with reasonable notice.
8. Feedback you send us
If you send us feedback, bug reports or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to act on them without obligation or payment. You keep ownership of anything you create; we simply need permission to use an idea you have chosen to send us.
Please do not send us confidential information or anything you are not free to share.
9. Intellectual property
The games, this website, our logos, artwork, music, code and brand names are owned by RecursionSplash and protected by copyright and trade mark law.
You may record, stream and publish video of our games, including monetised video, without asking us. You may use our screenshots and key art in articles, videos and thumbnails. That permission is real and you can rely on it. What you may not do is claim you made the game, or republish our assets as if they were your own work.
If a video of our games receives a copyright claim, or you believe something in our games or on this site infringes your rights, email legal@recursionsplashgames.com.
10. Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the services are provided without warranties of any kind, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid, through Steam, for our games and any DLC or in-game purchases for them in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
If you live in the UK or the EU, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.
11. If part of these Terms fails
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, that part is removed and the rest continues to apply. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and of the Canadian province in which RecursionSplash is based, and the courts of that province have jurisdiction over any dispute.
If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the province, state or country where you live, and it does not prevent you bringing a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted on this page, and the date at the top of this page will change. If you keep using the website or our online services after a change has been posted, the revised Terms apply to you from then on.
